In a letter to the editor, the governor’s office confirmed that it is working on whether or not to allow gambling in New York State. The future of gaming across Upstate could soon lie in Governor Cuomo’s hands.

The “upstate new york casinos” is a decision that Governor Cuomo may soon have to make. If the governor does decide to allow upstate casinos, he will be following through on his campaign promise.

Gov. Hochul May Have a Decision on Downstate Casinos Soon

Governor Kathy Hochul, according to the most recent sources from the Empire State, is ready to give the go-ahead and speed up the issue of downstate casino licenses. It is likely that such a contract will be reached in the coming days, bringing the three commercial casinos in downstate New York closer than previously anticipated.

The state government placed a freeze on the three available commercial casino licenses until 2023 a few years ago. However, several gaming operators and politicians have lately indicated their desire to see the downstate casinos open sooner rather than later, since a full-scale casino would be a desirable asset to have in the state given the global financial crisis.

a race against the clock

The governor, the State Senate, and the State Assembly are now poised to rush through a pact allowing bids for the three commercial downstate gaming licenses. However, this must be done before April 1, 2022, in order for the wording to be included in the state’s next fiscal year budget. However, it is unclear if the suggested license cost of $1 billion would be approved.

Mayor Eric Adams of New York City has also expressed his support for hastening the process. The mayor has even stated his choice for the location of the casinos, stating that he would like to see two of them in New York. The two front-runners for the licenses are Empire City Casino in Yonkers and Resorts World New York City in Queens.

Several corporations are vying for the third license, according to State Senator Liz Kreuger, an Upper East Side Democrat. She was formerly opposed to gambling expansion, but now feels that a casino facility in Manhattan may succeed if it catered to the rich rather than the working class. She also likes the notion of a Monaco-style home on Saks Fifth Avenue in Manhattan’s Midtown district.

Democrat Richard Gottfried, on the other hand, is still skeptical about a casino in Manhattan. He recently said in an interview that a gambling attraction would have a bad impact on the neighboring neighborhood. He also believes that if the borough already has one casino, there would be great pressure to open additional in the region.

The Position of Kips Bay

The Water Club in Kips Bay, which is situated on 30th Street and the East River, is also interested in filing for a commercial casino license. However, several residents were eager to express their displeasure with the plan. Diane Liotta, for example, although being a gambler herself, opposes the initiative because it may attract unsavory characters to the region.

Expansion of the iGaming Industry

After the recent legalization of mobile sports betting, New York Senator Joseph P. Addabbo Jr. expressed his wish to see the Empire State’s gambling industry go even further. In the Senate, Mr. Addabbo sponsored legislation to decriminalize interactive gaming in the state. Bill S8412, if approved, would enable licensed operators to provide online games of chance.

Stephen Lepore is the author of this article. “Is this the new Sin City?” Gov. Kathy Hochul might FAST TRACK clearance for three new casinos in the NYC-area geared at affluent gamblers in days — including a ‘Monaco-style gambling den above Saks Fifth Avenue,’ according to DailyMail on March 30, 2022.

The “casino near me” is a decision that New York Governor Andrew Cuomo may have soon. The governor has been meeting with casino operators to discuss the issue.
