July was a record-breaking month for online poker revenue. Many of the numbers we heard from our contacts were record highs. Last month, poker sites reported $246 million in revenue, which is a 27% increase from May 2015. The average player’s rakeback for the month of July was $19.35, which is 14% higher than June 2015.

According to Nick Bogdanovich, director of the Global Poker Rankings, July was a big month for online poker revenue. The top five earners for the month were PokerStars NJ, Party Poker, 888, PartyPoker and Full Tilt, with a combined revenue of nearly $15 million. The main reason for the increase: fewer restrictions in the U.S. states that have yet to pass online poker legislation. The U.S. Treasury recently released a list of 50 states that are “willing” to allow online poker, while Nevada, one of the first states to pass legislation, is working to gain approval from Congress for a federal online poker bill.

Online poker revenue is increasing all over the US, and it is clear that poker players are becoming more involved in the poker universe. While news about the online gaming industry may seem to be negative, there is no doubt that there is a lot going on in the online gaming world.

For licensed US states and operators, online poker revenue increased nearly everywhere in July. Operator incentives and WSOP.com bracelet tournaments drove some significant increases for the month.

Some states, such as New Jersey is a state in the United States., have had some of their busiest months in terms of online gambling to date. Players are demonstrating that the online poker industry is stable, despite the lack of physical and store poker rooms.

Online poker is presently allowed in the following states:

  • New Jersey
  • Pennsylvania
  • Michigan
  • Nevada
  • Delaware

Online poker in New Jersey has surpassed the $3 million mark.

Thanks to a big effort by WSOP.com, the Garden State experienced a strong recovery in July. For the month, operators took in almost $3.1 million.

This was an almost $1 million increase from the previous month. There are presently three online poker providers operating in New Jersey:

For the month of July, WSOP.com took the #1 position. According to the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement, the WSOP Online summer online bracelet series helped the site earn $1.7 million in revenue (NJDGE). The amount almost quadrupled from the $891,872 recorded in June.

With the bracelet series over, WSOP.com is likely to experience a drop in August. The site, on the other hand, continues to host a popular monthly WSOP Circuit ring series.

With Nevada and 888poker in Delaware, WSOP.com is the only provider providing shared liquidity.

Partypoker US Network grew by less than 1% month over month, bringing in $737,417 in revenue. Monthly Online Series featuring several events are also held on the site. In August, Party hosts its famous $50,000 freeroll tournament.

PokerStars finished in third place for the month, but their income increased by $622,663. This was an increase from the $584,515 reported in June.

For the sixth month in a row, the Borgata/BetMGM brand topped the list of online casino providers. BetMGM also saw a rise in revenue month over month, with $36.4 million compared to $33.5 million for Golden Nugget.

The purchase of the Golden Nugget online gambling brand by DraftKings was also recently announced.

Overall, casinos in New Jersey generated $44.2 million in gaming tax income for the state. Gaming taxes account for 8% of taxable casino gross income and 15% of gross revenue from online gaming.

The launch of WSOP.com boosts revenue in Pennsylvania.

The number of poker players in Pennsylvania increased somewhat in July. Revenue in the Keystone State was $2.5 million, up marginally from $2.4 million in June.

In July, Pennsylvania slipped behind New Jersey in terms of poker income. With the recent introduction of WSOP.com and the first-ever PA bracelet series, PA may reclaim the lead in August.

PokerStars took home $1.9 million in June and is still the state’s top dog. In the state, the sites are still fighting for space.

Monthly Online Series are conducted by BetMGM and Borgata Poker and are drawing more players each month. Both are affiliated with the partypoker US Network.

There are three online poker alternatives available right now:
