A bill that would make it illegal for sportsbooks to offer wagers on single sports games has been introduced in the house in the province of Ontario. The bill would prohibit sportsbooks from accepting bets on single games, such as baseball, soccer or basketball. The bill is sponsored by MPP Michael Mantha (Trinity-Spadina).

Legislation to legalize sports betting in Canada is rapidly approaching. If you’re a Canadian citizen, you may even have your chance to legally wager on the Super Bowl. But if you’re not an Albertan, a New Brunswicker or a resident of the Atlantic Provinces, you’re still out of luck.

The Canadian government has sent a Bill to the Senate to allow government-licensed casinos and sportsbooks to take bets on individual teams and games in the Provinces. This bill has been in the works for months as various provinces and Provinces have been fighting to allow a full casino license to operate in their province. In most provinces, this license would allow a casino to take bets on specific games.. Read more about bill c-218 update and let us know what you think. Only two weeks left before the passage of Canada’s gambling law. For nearly a decade, Canadian politicians have been working to change federal sports betting legislation. This action is not illegal, mind you. Current legislation provides for a sports lottery where bettors can choose multiple outcomes; this system is commonly referred to as betting. What is not legal is exactly what many officials have been trying to legalize all these years: the ability to place a single bet on the outcome of a single event. word-image-3395 Earlier this year, hopes were raised tenfold when the House of Commons passed a bill introduced last year. Bill C-218, introduced last year by Conservative MP Kevin Waugh (Saskatoon-Grasswoods), has suddenly gained momentum. Once she got going, overtaking seemed inevitable. However, the bill has only two weeks and two days left to be finally passed before it hits another wall.

Two weeks for Canadian single-game betting bill to pass

The Senate has done a lot of work since Bill C-218 was introduced in April. As soon as the text arrived – and it did with much fanfare, with bipartisan support from the Conservatives, Liberals, NDP and Bloc – the Senate immediately began its first reading review. The second reading, taking into account the views of colleagues, took place on 25 November. The month of May has arrived. Last week, the Senate Committee on Banking, Trade and Commerce heard testimony from various stakeholders over two days. Among them were national figures from the gaming world such as Paul Burns, President and CEO of the Canadian Gaming Association (CGA), Randy Ambrosi, Commissioner of the Canadian Football League (CFL), and others. On the regulatory side, the Senate listened to the Chief of the Mohawk Council of Kahnawake, Gina Deer, President and CEO of the Indian Gaming Authority, and Stewart Grotis, Director of Electronic Gaming at the British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC). The voice to protect players rather than wealth came from Sherry White, CEO of the Council for Responsible Gaming. With all parties represented and accounted for, support for the bill remains strong. However, there is at least one more hurdle before the Senate is likely to schedule a vote.

Correcting an error in Bill C-218 is a simple fix

Vernon White is an independent member of the Canadian Senate party and former Ottawa police chief. White says he’s not opposed to passing a sports betting law in California. However, he pointed out what he considered to be a major flaw in the wording. There is no change that would make it illegal to facilitate match-fixing. In sports, match-fixing is a term that refers to the act of an individual or a group influencing the outcome of a match. For example, an athlete taking bribes to lose a game, a quarterback intentionally making bad passes, a boxer making a fumble, or a referee making bad decisions. In this case, both the payer and the recipient should be held liable. This condition, according to Mr. White, could easily be included in this law. My biggest problem is that we haven’t solved the problem, White said, and it’s a simple solution. Despite all the circumstances, we still believe that this measure will pass. Even Senator Brent Cotter, an official critic of the bill, describes himself as a supporter rather than a critic. Right now, the big question is when. As fast as the single-bet bill is progressing in Canada, it is unlikely to be passed before the summer break. After a seasonal recess, the House and Senate will not meet until the 21st. The Supervisory Board will meet again in September.
